Full-Suite Interior Styling; Landed home; 2020

This was the second home we styled for our client, Fergus Evans. Forced to move out from his conservation shophouse unit due to subsidence issues, Fergus had found a sprawling new build and needed our help to turn this new house into a home. He contacted us before the Circuit Breaker and the home was installed when restrictions eased in late July.

Just as how we had worked together the first time, Fergus wanted Arete Culture to manage the entire project. Because our focus was to highlight his massive art collection (including artwork, sculptures, and antique furniture), we kept the rest of the home fresh and bright.

Notes from our stylists

  • We planned the spatial flow for the entire home, and styled all areas including the outdoors, living room, dining room, all bedrooms and bathrooms, hallways, home office, and the home gym.

  • We balanced the eclectic art collection with a mix of visually lighter materials such as glass, metallic finishes, and reflective sheens.

  • We used accents of blue throughout the home. Rugs were used to soften the polished, luxe look of the furniture, as well as to break up the geometric expanse of the common lounge.

Bespoke furniture from Arete Culture

  • As this home was much bigger than the previous space we had styled his previous space, we customised had to customise more furniture to fit complete the space.

  • We also reused almost all of the furniture from the first home. In total, the bespoke furniture we made for both the first and second homes include:

  • Dining table and chairs

  • Bar cabinet

  • Coffee tables and side tables

  • Sofas, accent armchairs, and chaise lounges

  • Bed frames and headboards

  • Sideboards

  • Nightstands

Client Testimonial

“I had used Caroline and Jeannette at Arete Culture to decorate my rented conservation shophouse and, when I had to move out due to subsidence issues, had no hesitation in contacting them again to help on a colonial style black and white house. Having worked with them before, both they and I knew what to expect from each other and so the styling went off without a hitch (notwithstanding Circuit Breaker and Phase 1 delaying things a bit...).

As the new house was bigger than the shophouse, I ordered some new bespoke furniture from them (bed, dining room table and chairs, bedside tables, bar cabinet, coffee tables etc.) which I am very happy with and which blend in well with the previous furniture they made for my previous place.

They also provided me with a wide range of carpets to have a look at before deciding on the final choices. They have a competent team of contractors who install lights, hang up paintings, paint feature walls etc. and they managed the whole process for me.”
