Richards Avenue

Design, Reno & Build; Interior Styling; Landed home; 2020

This home was two years in the making. We worked closely with the client and her architect to create a heritage home. The result, a modern living space with eclectic touches, honours the original structure of the house with extensive internal structural changes.

Design & reno build scope

  • Major changes were made to the internal layout of the house. On the first floor, we knocked down walls and changed the placement of the staircase. We also created false ceilings for electrical works.

  • The original floors were replaced for a sleeker and more modern feel. We also changed the doors and windows to allow for more light to enter the house.

  • We redesigned the kitchen to maximise storage. Laminates were chosen for a modern and slightly industrial look.

  • To accommodate the client’s request for better fengshui, we also designed a slim feature wall in the living room that would block the direct flow of energy from the front door to the back. A major consideration in designing this wall was to ensure the living room would remain open and airy, so we chose a matte but metallic finish that would help bounce light around.

  • We designed and built an outdoor shoe cabinet, using finishes that would complement the matte black tiles we chose for the outdoor entryway.

  • Upstairs, we redid the wardrobe laminates for a richer, more textural feel.

Notes from our stylists

  • For a sleek, modern, and still inviting home, we balanced a selection of grey tones with blues and creams in all rooms. We also used gold accents throughout.

  • We employed patterned wallpaper for a high-impact visual statement in the dining area and bedrooms.

  • To emphasise the height of the home, we advised the client to paint the ceiling beams a much darker tone. This eventually helped to create much-needed warmth in a space with more modern finishes.

  • We used heavy drapes and roman blinds for a more sophisticated, formal look.
